SLA Alerts

One thing that would be really helpful would be the ability to define specific SLAs around service execution times. I'd like to be able to define, possibly in a policy, operation SLAs that are specific for an endpoint and to be alerted in the event log with warnings if SLAs are being broken or in danger of being broken. I'm not sure if this is something that is already being planned or if there will be a way for us to extend the MSE to do this, but when dealing with this type of implementation, especially in a shared services type of environment, this could be important when different clients have different SLAs for a single operation.

We agree that once you address many of the common challenges of SOA with service virtualization, visibility into the system becomes the next big objective for an organization. Certainly with System Center you can alert off of different event logs and perf counters that are generated by the MSE. However, another opportunity to monitor SLA's is through the use of Biztalk Business Activity Manager (BAM). We have enabled BAM for MSE implementations through custom behaviors that collect metrics that feed into a scorecard or report. This is another one of the capabilities we do plan on making available through CodePlex at some point... unless somebody beats us to it :).
